What are TOTs/ Tethered Oral Tissues/ Ties??


All these terms are typically used interchangeable. They mean that your baby's frenulum in an area is short, tight, or where it is positioned is problematic/ causing decreased function.

When assessing for TOTs we use a holistic approach that is backed by evidence based resources.
Our approach decreases the risk over over diagnosing/treating but also ensures that issues are not missed.

  • Observe a feed to evaluate oral motor function
  • Try non-invasive approaches/treatment first
  • We work collaboratively with and refer to other providers to help ensure your baby had the best possible outcome and rule out other potential causes of the concerns.
  • Discussed preferred providers for treatment 
  • Discussed what to expect for treatment if indicated
  • Monitor healing closely after treatment to ensure optimal outcomes
  • Instruction on oral rehabilitation after treatment to help baby reach their full potential
